Kawasaki already has its long-awaited electric motorcycle ready. Although not exactly what we imagined

Not only vehicle manufacturers are making a considerable effort to electrify their ranges. Also among motorcycles we are beginning to see more examples of fully electrified vehicles, even in mythical brands such as Harley-Davidson.

Kawasaki is another one of them. In fact, a few months ago expectations were created with the first fully electric motorcycle of the Japanese firm. Then it was hinted that it would have an aesthetic very similar to the famous Ninja and that in 2022 we would see up to three completely electric models.

But Kawasaki’s first electric motorcycle has come as a surprise: it is a motorbike for children. Under the name of Kawasaki Electrode hides a small electric dirt bike designed to be used by children between the ages of 3 and eight.

A long wait

With Kawasaki’s first electric motorcycle finally discovered, there will be those who may have been disappointed. And it is that, of this new line of business of the Japanese firm has been talking for a long time. In fact, the first announcement with official data on it dates from 2020. Before, the project had already been referred to at the 2019 Milan Motor Show.

Then it was made clear that the first zero-emission motorcycle signed “Kawa” was betting on the sportsmanship. Even revealing a four-speed manual gearbox, which was an incentive for the purists and an advantage over the options of Harley-Davidson or Zero.

However, the final decision has been to show first the Kawasaki Elektrode, a small motorcycle, with an aesthetic similar to a bicycle and designed exclusively with the little ones in mind. And more specifically in those who compete in cross country competitions.

Priced at $1,099This Kawa Elektrode has a 250 W air-cooled motor and a 36 V 5.1 Ah lithium-ion battery installed inside the chassis. You can select three modes of use, called High, Mid and Low, which reach maximum speeds of 21, 12 and 8 km/h, respectively.

To achieve a full charge, it is necessary to spend two and a half hours and Kawasaki guarantees a performance of 80% of the battery up to 500 charge cycles.
