In 2018 IKEA announced its intention to launch its own turntable, but that project never came to fruition. Now the firm seems determined to return to that idea, and has announced your new turntable from the Obegränsad series.
The firm has not given too many technical details about its vinyl record player, but it has shown some images and in them you can see how the design It will be minimalist and sober.
USB powered
In a interview on the IKEA site one of the engineers responsible for the project indicated how this player will have its own integrated preamplifier, and will be additionally powered via a USB port (we assume USB-C).
The project is part of a collaboration with Swedish House Mafia, a Swedish group made up of DJs and music producers. At IKEA they did not want a turntable like the ones currently being manufactured and which, according to that engineer, “they almost want to hide”, and instead they opted for a design that was “a very physical manifestation of music“.
The result is clearly visible: the turntable is very square and very sober, but also minimalist. At IKEA they also wanted to offer a turntable with an affordable price to make it popular with the general public.
To do this they have simplified the components, and the turntable will have both a cartridge as a replaceable needle. The solid construction will allow to absorb and avoid vibrations.
The player will be ready to work with IKEA Eneby Bluetooth speakers, but not through a Bluetooth connection, but through the wired connection that those speakers also offer.
IKEA record player will be available during the fall of 2022but the specifications or price of the product are not yet known.
