One of the tools thatand offers us Windows and PowerShell and it allows us to access a console in which we can use commands to automate tasks, to control certain aspects of our computer. But do you know what PowerShell is or what it is for? What is it or how is it used and what can it be used for?
In the next paragraphs we will explain what this tool offers or if it can really be useful to you or what we can use it for.
What is PowerShell
PowerShell is the Windows tool that allows us to give instructions through commands. The Windows console that we use since 2006, when it was released. It allows us to give instructions to the operating system, execute instructions using a command line. explained from Microsoft’s own help website, PowerShell is “a cross-platform task automation solution It consists of a command line shell, a scripting language, and a configuration management framework.
The main mission of PowerShell on the computer is that we can execute scripts or command combinations and it allows us to configure or manage all kinds of tasks. Especially aimed at system administratorss but with all kinds of tools if we want to manage our team. It is intended for both Windows system configuration and Microsoft programs.
Powershell allows us to access a system console in a more advanced way than with MS-DOS or with CMD on a Windows computer and aims to be equal to or similar to a Linux terminal, with a very complete language and to do tasks.
What differences are there with CMD?
What are the differences between PowerShell and Command Prompt? Both work through command systems that we use to give instructions to the team but the main difference between the two is that PowerShell offers us more options, more tools, it offers us a renewed and more complete interface.
PowerShell es more modern and allows to execute CMD commands in the same but we can’t do it the other way around. That is, we cannot execute PowerShell commands in CMD. It uses commands but other more modern commands for system administration tasks.
How to use it
Powershell will be installed on your Windows computer by default but we can also download it later if we don’t have it or if we have deleted it. In addition, we can uninstall it, without any problem, from your computer.
If we want to access the PowerShell configuration we can do it from the configuration or the computer settings. We go to “Settings” on our Windows computer and look for the “Update and security” section and here we go to the menu on the left. Among all the menu options we have to go to the end to search for “For programmers”…
Arrived at this section we will see sections such as “developer mode”, “device portal”, “device detection”… Scroll to the end of the page, where we will reach “PowerShell” and we can mark the check: “Change the directive runtime to allow scripts from Local PowerShell to run unsigned. Require signature for remote scripts”. In addition, we can find the “Show configuration” button that will open the console directly.
