After a short teaser a few weeks ago (and which is included in this first trailer), Hulu presents a first preview of this new ‘Predator’ that we will see in Spain on Disney + on August 5. Here they have left behind mysteries and have clearly revealed in the translated title a link with the classic series that is not in the original production (simply titled ‘Prey’), but the advance leaves no room for doubt: we are facing a new delivery of ‘Predator’ with all of the law.
What the trailer also makes clear is that this new installment tries to return to the survivalist simplicity of the first installment, sending us to an uncivilized environment and a combat of resistance and ingenuity between a human (a Native American hunter, Amber Midthunder) and the deadly galactic hunter. What this new installment also seems to lack is the characteristic violence and brutal humor that John McTiernan injected into the first film.
to sign this prequel, which takes place years before Schwarzenegger laid waste to the Amazon rainforest (some European settlers are also seen in the trailer), is in charge of Dan Trachtenberg, whom we remember from the phenomenal ’10 Cloverfield Street’. We hope that this will keep its feverish rhythm and its claustrophobic pulse to give some verve to this fourth installment of the series (if we do not count the two in which the Predators faced the other most aggressive race in the galaxy).
‘Predator’ is a franchise that has followed very particular paths and has fans (and haters) scattered by each of its reformulations. Perhaps the first is the most unanimously praised, although the second, over the years, has also gained a well-deserved cult status. The third part, strange, already delivered to planetary science fiction and with touches even of murder mystery It’s an interesting twist on the original approach, and ‘The Predator’ was thrashed in its day, but it’s an excellent ultra-violent adventure full of iconoclastic humor. Let’s see how the Predator feels about this new twist.
