The presentation of the new MacBook Air (2022) does not come alone. MacOS Ventura is now official and is focused on improvements to some of the main operating system tools for MacBooks. We are not facing a radical design change, but a new version that reinforces the use of MacOS among users. These are the what’s new in macOS 13 Ventura.
Stage Manager: new way to rearrange windows
The first novelty of MacOS Ventura is Stage Manager. This is a new way to reorganize windows on Mac. For example, we can group different windows by groupsfor example if we are in a project that requires several programs.
Stage Manager also allows us to have overlapping windows. That is, we can work with several “main applications” and have others in the sidebar to switch easily. A way to organize tabs that will also come to iPadOS 16.
Mail and Spotlight changes
Two other applications that have news are Mail and Spotlight. The macOS Mail app includes new options like undo send, remember for later and scheduled shipping.
In the case of Spotlight, the MacOS search application will allow you to find information on the network of terms such as singers, where it will return information from your social networks or images.
This search falls within the quick actions which will allow you to run Spotlight, for example start a timer.
Passkeys: a future without passwords
Equivalent to what we saw with Google, Safari will adopt the Passkeys feature, where they anticipate a future where passwords are not needed thanks to encryption keys. This function is part of the Apple’s incorporation into the Fido Alliance standard.
Use iPhone as a camcorder
We did not expect this function and it is perhaps the most surprising. Continuity Camera will allow iPhones to be used as a camera for video conferences. This will allow, for example, to take advantage of the iPhone’s wide-angle camera for FaceTime. Also take advantage of features like automatic scene lighting.
With the promise of improving games, powered by the possibilities offered by Apple Silicon processors, Apple has introduced Metal 3. The new version of this graphics engine will allow better resolution and performance. As part of this announcement, Apple confirms the Arrival of No Man’s Sky and Resident Evil Village on macOS.
Availability of macOS Ventura
macOS 13 Ventura will arrive in beta versions throughout this summer. The final version of Apple’s new desktop system is expected to be available for the months of September or October. The update will be free for all supported MacBooks.
