If we wanted to go back to the future, we needed to see an electric DeLorean. Although we already knew that the brand was behind a new car zero emissions to revive a mythical name, it has been now that we have met the new DeLorean Alpha 5.
Obviously, although the new electric sports car has updated its lines to meet current aesthetic standards, the new DeLorean Alpha 5 has some aesthetic details typical of the mythical DMC-12. Its gull wings or the wide glass rear with horizontal openings irremediably reminds us of the Back to the Future vehicle.
With these details and with proportions typical of a sports coupe, the similarities with the classic model end. The design has been carried out by Italdesignthe company of Giorgietto Giugiaroone of the most important designers of the last 60 years and creator of the DeLorean DMC-12.
Inside, the creators of the DeLorean Alpha 5 have opted for minimalism. Only a large screen behind the steering wheel (in the form of a dashboard) breaks rounded shapes that embrace the driver and passenger. The infotainment screen protrudes from the central column that serves as an armrest and that keeps what look like two large controls for its control. In its lower area there is a free hole in what looks like a place that could be used for wireless charging of the mobile phone.
Few details have been released so far. performance and autonomythough Joost de VriesCEO of the brand in this resurgence, has stressed in statements to Autocar that have supercars like the Mercedes-AMG GT and the Porsche Taycan.
Vries has announced that they expect this new DeLorean Alpha 5 to have a range of more than 300 miles (almost 500 kilometers), be capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds (so a 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds) and a top speed of 240 km/h.

To recover this mythical signature, DeLorean counts on its revival with Joost de Vries as CEO, who was part of Tesla and worked for more than six and a half years as VP Sales & Customer Experience at Karma Automotivean American firm that manufactures luxury and electric vehicles.
The new DeLorean Alpha 5 should arrive in 2024 but we will see it for the first time next August in the Pebble Beach Pageant of Elegance, one of the most important in the world. It has also been confirmed that production is currently limited to 88 units at first launch.
The 88 units pay homage to the 88 mph (142 km/h) that the DeLorean DMC-12 had to reach to make the leap in time. In addition, it has also been pointed out that these 88 units will not be approved and will only be registered with an NFT that will guarantee each of these units. Therefore, they can only be used on circuit. With these first 88 units sold, de Vries has confirmed that they will start production of the DeLorean Alpha 5 as a street car, meeting all relevant requirements albeit with a very low production volume.
As for the future of the brand, at DeLorean they are aware that the viability of the project involves manufacturing the fashionable bodywork. For this reason, shortly after the launch they will reveal what will be their second model: an SUV. Of this future vehicle, no further details have been offered.
