Another option related to this can also be in the general volume of our device. If we have not noticed and we have completely removed the sound we will not be able to listen to YouTube or anything. To fix this, on PC go to the bottom right where there is a sound icon and raise it to the level you want. On mobile, use the side buttons for this.
Problems with headphones or speakers
If both the player tells us that YouTube has sound and the general volume is up, it may be that we have the problem with headphones or speakers. Of course, this would not make us hear anything at all.
To check if this is the case, all we have to do is try to play another type of content, such as a video that we have inside or use another platform such as Spotify or iVoox. If this is the case, you can try connecting to your device other headphones or speakers you have around the house.
clean your connector
This is perhaps more for the computer, although it can also be used for your mobile device. Wired headphones or speaker systems always require that the plug where we connect them be perfectly clean.
If it is dirty or in poor condition, the connector may not make contact correctly, so we could hear YouTube badly or not at all. For it, clean your connector with a little alcohol or for your computer you can also carefully use compressed air.
Problems on your computer
Once we have already got rid of the simplest common problems, it is time to start solving those more specific ones. Let’s start with the computersince here the error can be camouflaged in more places, but some of these tips that we give you below should end your sound problems at the root.
Change browser or update it
To listen to YouTube on our computer we are going to have to access the platform through a browser. Most people use Chrome, but regardless of your preferred browser, it may be that we do not listen to YouTube “because of it”.
Before we get into more complex solutions, it would be interesting if The first thing you will try is to change the browser and try to see if the YouTube sound problem persists. It does not matter if you try with Edge, Firefox or any other.
Another very frequent error and that has the inconvenience that it is difficult to perceive, we are going to find it in the browser tab. By default, the tabs of our browser usually have the audio activated, but it may happen that we have inadvertently deactivated it.
If this happens, everything we play on it (be it YouTube or any other platform) will not sound anywhere. Activating it is very simple: you just have to right-click on it and click on «Reactivate tab audio«.
wrong sound source
If you have in your team speakers and headphones connected at the same timeit may happen that the audio of the browser (and, therefore, of YouTube) is coming from the source that you do not want, and that obviously could make you mistakenly believe that YouTube does not sound.
To check if this is the case, all you have to do is go to the Windows volume mixerand there you will see if you have more than one source connected and the sound bar of each one so that you can establish that you want it to sound more.
Use the troubleshooter
As with computing it is sometimes difficult to know where the error may be, Windows includes a problem solver that works really well and is capable of detecting and fixing problems of all kinds automatically.
To access it, we will have to write Settings in the Windows search engineselect Update and Security, and choose the Troubleshoot option that we will find on the left side of the screen.
Conflict between devices
Our computer has many different devices and pieces of hardware connected to it at the same time. The drivers of these usually make them all work normally, but it may happen that there is some kind of conflict that makes us unable to listen to YouTube or anything on our computer.
To see if the error may be in this and to solve it, we will have to write in the Device Manager search engine. In the window that will appear we will be able to see all the hardware of our computer, and if we see an icon with a yellow exclamation it could be that it is causing a failure in our computer. To solve it, click on it and click on update driver.
sound format error
This error is not that common, but it can happen that Windows has automatically changed the sound format by placing one that is incompatible with YouTube. As we say, it is a bit rare for this to happen, but it is worth checking it out.
In order to access its configuration, we will have to write the word Sound in the search engine to access to Sound Settings. In this window, we will go to the right part where it indicates Sound Control Panel. A new window will appear, we will take the sound source we want and click on Properties, Advanced Options and select a different format to see if this solves the problem.
Try updating Windows
This solution is more general and perhaps more “cumbersome”, but it is still a way to solve the problem of YouTube and others of all kinds. The current version of Windows that we have on our computer it may have a bug that prevents this platform from ringing.
If we go to the tab of Update and security Within Settings we can see if we have a pending operating system update. Regardless of whether or not this fixes it, it’s something we recommend you always do.
update your drivers
Another generalist option, but just as effective. Drivers are a must so that our devices always work correctly, and corrupt or outdated drivers can perfectly make YouTube not sound.
Updating them is as simple as following the steps that we have shown you above for the conflict between devices, search for the sound system that we have installed and right-click on it to choose Update driver.
This solution is somewhat more specific, because we will only use it when we cannot listen to YouTube on our Bluetooth sound system. More and more of us are choosing to use wireless systems, but like others they can also fail.
To solve this problem, what we have to do is write bluetooth in the browser. That will make the window appear on the screen where all the devices of this type are located, and what we should do is first remove it and then try to pair it again.
Problems on your mobile device
If your problem is not on the computer, but on a mobile device (either tablet or mobile), there are a few different things we can do to see if we get to hear YouTube on it. You must bear in mind that in essence they are solutions very similar to those of the computer, but since the process to carry them out is somewhat different, that is why we have separated them in this section.
Reboot your device
One of the “universal” solutions that we always have available to solve problems is reboot our device. It is true that this is also common between computers and mobile devices, but in the case of mobile phones it is something that we do not usually take into account and that can work very well.
If you have problems listening to YouTube on your mobile, we recommend that one of the first solutions you apply is to restart your device. The way to do it will be very similar if you use iOS or Android, basically having to turn off the device and turn it back on next.
Try updating the app or browser
The best way to watch and listen to YouTube on a mobile device is to go to its official app. This, which is available for both iOS and Android, may well be the problem that we cannot listen to any video, so updating it may be the solution.
As we also have the possibility of accessing the platform through a browser, it may happen that the one you are using in particular is the problem. Try to update it or just try a different one.
Conflict with another player
Viewing multimedia content on our mobile device is today quite normal, even on a smartphone. Platforms of all kinds such as Netflix or Disney Plus offer their services in apps, and these can cause a dispute with YouTube that makes us unable to listen to any video.
This incompatibility error is more frequent than you may initially think, and it is very common to see these platforms and leave the app open in the background. If this is your case, we encourage you to try close all apps (including YouTube) and then test whether or not you can listen to videos from the Google platform.
Update your operating system
As with Windows, the problem with YouTube can also be with the operating system of your device. Older versions of these often cause crashes with modern applications, so update it to the latest version available may be a perfect solution for you.
In Android and iOS it is somewhat different to update the operating system, but in both cases we must go to the device configuration to do so. Before upgrading make sure that you are not going to use your device for a few minutes.
Your Bluetooth headphones are not working
As with the operating system, mobile phones and tablets can also share the error with bluetooth headphones. It is perfectly normal for these to stop ringing from one day to the next, which is undoubtedly a nuisance.
Getting these to work again has 3 solutions: charge your battery, update your firmware version to the latest y remove them to reconnect them below as we would have done with our computer.
