Last April, Movistar announced the arrival of its new and compact router, the Smart WiFi 6 with which a network improvement and in coverage. In this sense, it is also an alternative that the blue company offers us to the Smart WiFi wireless access point that this company launched at the beginning of 2018. But, how can we install it at home?
Movistar’s Smart WiFi 6, an improved router
And it is that last October, when the existence of this new Movistar router model was known, what we saw is that it was an update of the current device. An evolution of the same that forced the operator to have an intermediate team that improves performance.
And so it has been. Thus, with this Movistar Smart Wifi 6, we have a new team that goes deeper to improve connectivity in your Movistar Home with a speed up to five times higher and up to 30% more coverage thanks to this new technology.
In this way, it allows it to behave in two ways: either as an access point designed to provide us with WiFi 6 connectivity and replace the WiFi network served by the router, or it can be used as a signal repeater that works side by side with the router to expand the coverage of our network. But how to install it?
It is easy to install
This new Movistar router is manufactured by Mitrastar (it is the GPT-2841GX4X5), operates with GPON and offers both more speed and more coverage, where it has up to 3 Gbps of internal speed in the 5 GHz band thanks to, among other things , have 5×5 MIMO. Specifically, it measures 22 x 19 x 4 centimeters. And unlike the previous model, Movistar recommends place it vertically to make the most of its built-in antennas.
With a new support for a increased number of connected devices, as well as being more efficient in energy use, this Smart WiFi 6, just connect it to your router with the Ethernet cable that is included in the box. These are the steps to follow:
- First, disconnect the fiber optic cable from your old router and connect it to the fiber optic port of the new Smart WiFi Router 6. If you use the landline telephone cable you can connect it to the ‘Telf’ port of the equipment with a telephone jack, or if you only use a landline telephone, you can plug it directly into the ‘Telf’ port of the equipment instead of to the rosette
- Plug the power adapter into the mains and into the DC port connector on the equipment.
- Finally, turn on the device by pressing the on/off button located on the back and wait until all the LEDs turn blue (it may take several minutes).
We can manage the connection from the app
When connecting the Amplifier to a Smart WiFi Router, it will automatically detect the configuration you had in your home and keep the same name and WiFi password that you had. This way you won’t have to worry about reconfiguring all the Movistar Home devices and equipment.
In practice, those who acquire this new router will benefit from better coverage, allowing speeds up to three times faster than the previous router and a coverage range that is a 25% wider.
At the same time, and as Movistar also explains, we can download the Smart WiFi app itself on your mobile with which we can manage the connection of your devices, create an exclusive network for guests or optimize the status of the WiFi network, among others.
