The Czech Republic is home to the world’s longest new pedestrian bridge. We are talking about Sky Bridge 721a 721-meter-long hanging tourist attraction that has just snatched the title from the Arouca, a 516-meter-long megastructure made up of railings and steel cables, which had begun receiving visitors in April last year.
Located in the Dolní Morava high mountain resort, the new Czech footbridge rises to 95 meters high above ground and 1,125 meters above sea level and connects the Orlické (Eagle) and Jeseníky mountains. With its 120 centimeters wide, only pedestrians are allowed to cross it (those who dare to cross it). Bicycles, wheelchairs and pushchairs are not allowed.
An attraction for those who do not have vertigo
Surrounded by the nature of the Králický Sněžník Mountain, the Sky Bridge 721 promises to give visitors a breathtaking panorama of the landscape. Visitors will depart from the Slaměnka Chalet mountain hut, close to another prominent tourist attraction called Skywalkto the side of Chlum Hill, where they will experience a interpretive trail.
In addition to enjoying the natural environment, which crosses the Mlýnský valley and allows you to observe the imposing forest mass that stretches to the horizon, tourists can immerse themselves in a augmented reality (AR) experience). It is an educational game, designed mainly for children, that covers topics such as environmental protection and the history of the place from 1938 to 2022.
The construction of the bridge, which has a structure with six main ropes and another sixty wind ropes, has required two years of work and a little more than €8 million. It can be crossed, with prior reservation online, every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the months of July and August. The pass costs 14 euros, but if it is combined with the visit to the Skywalk, the price is 32.50 euros.
As explained Dolní Morava Mountain Resort, the Sky Bridge 721 experience lasts two hours and may not be enabled on some days. If the winds reach 135 km/h the visits will be canceled for security reasons. However, when weather conditions are favourable, up to 500 people simultaneously throughout the circuit of the attraction.
